About
Summit for the Planet is a community event raising funds to help youth care for the planet -- and for all the nonprofit organizations that have registered.
What it's for:
This positive community event brings people and organizations together, increases awareness about the environment -- and raises funds. The funds go to the participating organizations and to support educational programs that inspire youth to care for the planet.
How it works:
- Tax exempt organizations sign up to participate on-line at www.SummitforthePlanet.org; once approved they appear as participating organizations on the web site.
- Each organization then invites its community members to participate as walkers – walkers can be any age.
- Walkers come to the website and register (they create a profile, indicate which organization they’re supporting, and set a goal for how far they’ll walk).
- Walkers tell their family, friends, etc to come to the website and make a pledge to sponsor them. Sponsors can make a “per kilometer” pledge or a flat donation.
- On April 24, we all gather to walk starting at the Mount Madonna School campus. Registration begins at 8:30am. The walk is from 9am to 11am. Volunteers will be stationed along the route to offer support, water and to stamp the walker’s ‘passports.’ There will be a 5 kilometer loop (ambitious walkers can go around twice). After walking, participants are invited to relax, celebrate and learn at the 4th Annual Festival for the Environment (www.ecofest.us).
- Within two weeks, we’ll notify all the sponsors how far the participants hiked and request payment.
- Once funds are in, 70% of all pledges and donations your participants raised will go directly your organization.
Who is participating:
The project is led by a team of volunteers from Mount Madonna School and around Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties.
